Ku Nan: Don’t be influenced by ‘street lalang’

Federal Territories Minister says the government is more concerned about what the people want rather than fulfilling their own political needs.

KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has called on the public to meet with officials in his department instead of participating in street demonstrations to voice their grouses over certain issues.

Cautioning the public against being too easily influenced, he said the demonstrations organised by the “street lalang” (those who are undecided) were meant to provoke the people and disrupt businesses.

“My advice is, do not follow these street lalang with their street demonstrations. This is because, the demonstrations were obviously organised by outsiders.

“Those from KL will be angry, the vendors will be angry, the rakyat too will be angry,” he said during a press conference at the Federal Territory and KL City Hall’s (DBKL) Hari Raya open house.

He also advised the public to be careful of certain quarters out to create divisions in the government.

“The Barisan Nasional government is more interested to listen to what the people want to say, not what we (BN) want.

“Sometimes there are certain quarters who take advantage by twisting the facts and situations when we (government) want to fix the problems.”

The Umno secretary-general also warned that Kuala Lumpur enforcement officers would continue to monitor all street rallies planned around the city.
