PETALING JAYA: Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin has dismissed talk of a conspiracy with opposition leaders to topple Najib Razak as prime minister.
He said that as the number two man in a party supported by the Malays, it was irrational for him to do so.
“I have no conspiracy to topple the prime minister by conspiring with the Selangor Menteri Besar (Mohamed Azmin Ali) and Lim Guan Eng (Penang Chief Minister)… both of them have denied and I need not deny or say anything because I am not involved,” he said when opening the Petaling Jaya Utara Umno Youth divisional delegates’ meeting here today.
Last week, blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin had stated that Muhyiddin had been involved in moves to arrange a confidence vote against Najib in Parliament, with the help of opposition MPs, and that this plan had been scuttled by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang refusing to take part.
Muhyiddin said that, having been an Umno member for more than 40 years, he was determined to carry out the trust and responsibility as deputy president of the party to continue the struggle to champion the rights of the Malays.
He also reminded Umno members especially in Selangor not to easily give up the fight to recapture political power in the state at the next general election.
Referring to the various issues and challenges faced by Umno, Muhyiddin said party members especially from the Youth wing must give priority to the party’s struggles above their party post.
“Our task is to resolve the issues such as the GST (Goods and Services Tax), unemployment among the youths, rising prices of goods as well as other problems burdening the people,” he said.
To the Youth leadership who have new idealism, he advised them to use the right platform to raise the issues and opinions in line with the current development.
