Now, Dr M agreeable to STREET PROTESTS to force Najib to quit but only as 'LAST RESORT'
Street demonstration to oust Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak could be done but only as a last resort, said former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He was replying to a question on the #TangkapNajib rally on Aug 1, and the mammoth Bersih 4 rally scheduled to be held on Aug 29 and 30 to push for Najib's resignation.
"That would be the last resort. We are not violent people. We should not resort to street demonstrations because it could affect others.
"But if there is no way, then it could be done," he told a press conference at University Tunku Abdul Rahman today.
Earlier, Mahathir when responding to a query from a student in the dialogue session, hinted that Malaysians are very tolerant towards Najib (photo).
"Malaysians are tolerant people; perhaps too tolerant. In other countries, people have demonstrated to demand leaders to step down," he said.
'Remove Najib, the cause of our crisis'
When asked about the solution for the crisis now, including the falling ringgit, Mahathir gave a very simple anwer: Change Najib, whom he points to as the one responsible for the crisis.
"The solution is simple but to achieve it is hard. The solution is to remove the man who is the cause of all this.
"But the problem, as I said, is how do you do it? That part, I have no answer just yet," he said receiving thunderous applause from almost a thousand-strong audience at the university's multi-purpose hall.
Mahathir has been a constant thorn in Najib's side after criticising the administration and its performance, as well as the lifestyle of the prime minister and his family members, since last year, especially in relation to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad fiasco. - Mkini
