In its commitment to clean up the federal capital of illegal advertisements, Kuala Lumpur City Hall has taken down 668,729 illegal advertisements since January this year.
Today alone, 11,021 illegal advertisements were taken down in a massive operation in 11 Kuala Lumpur parliamentary constituencies, namely Wangsa Maju, Setiawangsa, Kepong, Batu, Titiwangsa, Bukit Bintang, Lembah Pantai, Seputeh, Cheras, Segambut and Bandar Tun Razak.
City Hall Enforcement Department director Mohd Sauffi Muhamad said the local authority's target was to clean up 1.5 million illegal advertisements by year end as declared by Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Mhd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz in early August and today's operation was part of that effort.
after the operation today.
To combat the menace, City Hall is also working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to cancel all telephone numbers displayed on illegal advertisements.
Mohd Sauffi said up to August 6, 140 telephone numbers printed on illegal advertisements had their lines terminated by MCMC.
"Illegal advertisements which have complete information would be issued compounds and if the fines are not paid in the period specified, we will proceed to open investigation papers to bring such cases to court," he said.
Sticking and hanging illegal advertisements is an offence under the Advertisement By-laws (Federal Territory) 1982 and the Vandalism By-laws (Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur) 1991. – Bernama
