Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar has called on the Conference of Rulers to meet quickly and discuss the public’s crisis of confidence in the government of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Mahfuz, in a statement today, said the long-standing political crisis had resulted in the focus of development in the country to be diverted from its original plan.

“This has turned into a crisis of confidence on Najib and his government who seemed bent on wanting to protect the political and economic crimes which clearly do not benefit the country and the people.

“The 1MDB, the gathering of wealth for Najib’s family, and the yes-man attitude by Cabinet members and the top leadership of Umno-BN, as well as high-ranking government officers, especially the police, will only lead the country to ruin.

He said in order to save the people and the country, the Conference of Rulers need to have an emergency meeting.

“The present Cabinet does not enjoy the trust of the people. Hence, a new transition cabinet should be formed as soon as possible, before a new mandate can be given by the people.

“I believe with the Malay Rulers’ involvement, the crisis could be averted further, as well as afford protection and save the people and the country’s situation from turning worse,” he said in the statement.

Najib is facing investigations following allegations of RM2.6 billion entered into his personal accounts and this was being probed by a special task force comprising the police, Bank Negara and the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission. The task force has ceased its investigations, after an order from newly appointed attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali.
