Shahbudin: Najib ‘best Prime Minister’ but only for a few

Najib was best at taking a couldn’t care less attitude, as if he never did anything wrong, in fact 'suci bersih' even in the face of numerous allegations against him.

KUALA LUMPUR: A political analyst wonders how Abdul Rahman Dahlan can describe Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak as the best – even within the context of Sabah and Sarawak — when there’s a video going viral on why he needs to be sent for “medical treatment” as soon as possible. “People are shaking their heads and laughing at his claim that Najib is the best Prime Minister.”
“How can Najib be the best given the RM2.6 billion in his personal banking accounts? This is the issue being talked about by the whole world, the fact that he could get a RM2.6 billion political donation.”
Shahbudin Husin was referring to the subject of the video, a speech by Umno Langkawi member Anina Saaduddin from the Women’s Wing. She charged that Najib was urinating on the three million Umno members and hence her suggestion that he needs urgent medical attention. “Perhaps, we can dispute the manner in which she delivered the message,” conceded the analyst. “However, what she said was true.”
“Umno and the government under Najib has become the butt of jokes. As the Chinese would say, ‘cakap tak serupa bikin’.”
The analyst concedes that Najib was best at taking a couldn’t care less attitude, as if he never did anything wrong, in fact suci bersih (clean and pure) even in the face of numerous allegations against him. “Although the MACC has said the RM2.6 billion was a political donation, and stopped there, he’s being tried from a moral perspective by the whole world. It’s not enough not to be hauled to the Court of Law, a leader must also be seen as innocent in the Court of Public Opinion.”
The crab by the sea shore, teaching its young to walk, will also lose out to Najib, said Shahbudin. “For example, he has announced the formation of the National Consultative Committee on Political Financing.”
“Shouldn’t he be clearing himself of the RM2.6 billion issue hanging over his head before announcing such an initiative?”
If someone other than Najib had announced the formation of the Committee, agreed the analyst, it would have been okay. However, he stressed, it was Najib himself who announced the Committee as if he was “the cleanest person in the world. None of the questions directed at him on the RM2.6 billion have been answered”.
Shahbudin pointed out that Najib was not willing to acknowledge that the RM2.6 billion entered his personal banking accounts in 2013 even after the issue was exposed. “What was raised was the money in his personal accounts, but what he’s willing to disclose is the money in Umno’s accounts.”
“He wants the Opposition parties to reveal their political funding in return for revealing Umno’s accounts. Nothing is being said about the RM2.6 billion in his personal accounts which are said to be a political donation and should therefore be in the party’s accounts.”
