UMNO DIVISIONS DRAW BATTLE LINES: Klang members rally behind Najib

UMNO DIVISIONS DRAW BATTLE LINES: Klang members rally behind Najib
KLANG - The country’s biggest political party appears to be heading towards a confidence crisis as Umno delegates picked sides today at their divisional meetings across the nation.
At its meeting, the Klang Umno division even proposed specific motions to express their overt support for party president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak amid public backlash over his recent shake-up of government, including the shock removal of two senior party leaders, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, from the Cabinet.
“Appreciating that the appointment of the new deputy prime minister and ministers is the absolute power of the prime minister. As the prime minister, he expects the Cabinet to work together with him.
“The deputy prime minister should support and defend all the decisions that has been made together and not raise views which are not aligned, what more raising it outside after the decision has been made.
“When such views are raised in public, it will be misinterpreted by the enemy parties and the public,” one proposed motion read, in Bahasa Malaysia.
The motion is to be debated later today at the Klang division meeting.
The Selangor delegates here who proposed the motion threw their full support behind Najib and even said there no one should question the party president’s decisions once made.
“The president (Umno) expects undivided support and is willing to defend any decision that has been made. Not being questioned at the back.
“We (Umno Klang) give our full and undivided support to the leadership of the Prime Minister who is also the party president,” the motion read.
Klang Umno division put up a banner expressing support for embattled party president and prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, during their division meeting August 15, 2015.
The Klang Umno division meeting today is officiated by party vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who replaced Muhyiddin as deputy prime minister in a Cabinet reshuffle last month.
The Cabinet shake-up saw the ouster of Umno deputy president Muhyiddin and vice-president Shafie after both men raised questions into debt-riddled 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Najib is to have an event at Dataran Merdeka later today to ‘Pray for Malaysia’ which seeks divine guidance to navigate the country out of the troubled political climate it currently is in.
Across the South China Sea, in the state considered a BN “fixed deposit”, Sabah Umno delegates rallied behind both Muhyiddin and local-born Shafie in an showy display of support, singing songs while giving a standing ovation to welcome the duo to the Semporna division meeting today.
The Semporna division had even rescinded an initial invitation for Najib to open their meeting, though they cited safety reasons. - Malay mail
