The unnamed Umno leader said to be behind a plot to topple the government will meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak this evening, reported The Star Online.
The news portal quoted deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as saying the leader had "come to his senses" and realised the severity of his plan.
"As of last night I was told that the individual concerned realised that his action was wrong.
Zahid yesterday revealed that the Umno leader planned to topple the government with the support of opposition lawmakers.
Zahid said that as home minister, he had learnt that they were preparing statutory declarations (SD) ‎to remove the government.
This led to deputy Umno president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the party veteran leader Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah denying having any part in the alleged conspiracy.
Today, Zahid insisted the information he received on the plot is correct, as it was told to him by an individual, whom he did not name, who allegedly sat in a meeting to discuss the plan.
"My info didn't come from the roadside. It came from a person who was present when the evil plan was being conceived," he was further quoted as saying.
Zahid also ticked off DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang for suggesting there is nothing undemocratic for the government to be changed through constitutional means.
Zahid declared he would never allow the government to be replaced through the "back door".
"This government was elected by the people. You cannot use the back door to change it. Only the people can through the ballot box decide who they want," he was quoted as saying.
