Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today refuted an allegation that Umno members would also participate in the Bersih 4.0 rally to be held this Saturday and Sunday.
"There is an allegation saying that Umno grassroot supporters will be involved in the rally. My answer is, it is all a lie by Bersih," he added.
He hoped the public would not be easily deceived or influenced by allegations made by the organiser of the rally.
He told this to reporters after the prize presentation ceremony of the Art Expression @ Kuala Lumpur Lake Garden Festival (KLLGF) 2015 here today.
Also present were Tourism and Culture Ministry's Deputy Secretary-General (culture), Ab Ghaffar A Thambi, and National Culture and Arts Director-General Norliza Rofli.
Tengku Adnan, who is Federal Territories Minister, was commenting a news portal report claiming that UMNO members would also participate in the rally.
He said the Kuala Lumpur City Hall was firm in not allowing Dataran Merdeka to be used as a venue for the rally this weekend so as not to disrupt preparations for the National Day celebration to be held at the location.
"DBKL will not give permission for Dataran Merdeka and Padang Merbok as location for the rally. If they want (to hold the rally), go to the Melawati Stadium, Shah Alam or elsewhere, not in Kuala Lumpur," he added.
It is learnt that the police had asked the organiser to change the location of their proposed rally, which was planned at Dataran Merdeka and Padang Merbok, to other locations as they are not suitable to be used as a venue for the rally.
