'ALL MY BROTHERS CAME TO MY AID': JOHOR'S BELOVED PRINCESS QUITS INSTAGRAM AFTER 'TUDUNG' HOO-HA
JOHOR BARU - Johor princess Tunku Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah has closed her public Instagram account after getting negative comments for not wearing a tudung.
Speaking to reporters for the first time since her brother came to her defence, Tunku Aminah said she did not want people who did not know her to pass quick judgments about her dressing, adding that this was something between her and Allah.
“I believe that this is the best decision that I ever made.
“I realised that being in the limelight is not for me and I am really happy after closing my Instagram account early this month.
“I am now quite content within my own little bubble,” she said after attending a Johor Baru SPCA luncheon where she was appointed the patron on Tuesday.
The only daughter among the six children of Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar and Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah said she was grateful to her brothers, especially Tunku Temenggong Johor, Tunku Idris, for standing up for her.
“I only found out about what he did after reading it in The Star a couple of days ago and all my brothers came to my aid which made me really happy,” she said.
Tunku Aminah said she had decided to have a public Instagram account to share her views and thoughts to the masses.
“At first, I posted pictures of my cats, but then, people started leaving nasty comments about not wearing a tudung that hurt me.
“It then started to go on and on until gradually I felt that they were invading my private space.
“After receiving good advice from my parents, who were worried about my well-being and safety, I decided to quit all social media,” she said.
It was reported that Tunku Idris had defended his sister’s dressing via social media, saying that she prayed more than some of those who wore tudung and that she wore a selendang (shawl) at all religious events.
Tunku Aminah, who is a known animal lover, said the Johor Zoo would soon be temporarily closed down until several issues, including of its workers and the animal welfare, were resolved.
“I do hope that these will be resolved soon and we will be able to move the zoo to a better location near Legoland theme park in Nusajaya in three years,” she said. -  ANN
