Two videos showing taxi drivers attacking two cars allegedly belonging to Uber and GrabCar drivers around Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) have gone viral on social networking sites Facebook and YouTube.
Both videos began with a man in a green shirt saying they had ”caught” a driver near KLCC and ended with him warning drivers not to use the service.
One of the videos, which lasts a minute and 19 seconds video, showed several taxi drivers pulling over a Perodua Myvi after they claimed that the driver has no permit to pick up customers around the area.
One of the taxi drivers then proceeded to break the car’s side mirror while another warned the victim not to ever pick up any other customer from the area.
The car then immediately sped out of the scene while one of the aggressive taxi drivers were seen kicking a cone at the car’s direction.
Another video, lasting a minute and 43 seconds, showed taxi drivers surrounding a car and breaking off the rear wiper, hitting the car multiple times, calling for the passenger to be let down.
Meanwhile, Big Blue Capital’s advisor Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail admitted that the video was part of an operation from his side, to eradicate illegal taxi services which he said has affected hundreds of taxi drivers operating around KLCC.
He explained that the company has carried out an investigation and monitored the movements and activities of the illegal taxis for over two months.
“So yesterday we had an operation and successfully arrested seven drivers. Three of them were taken to Dang Wangi police station.
“The extreme action by several of the taxi drivers was probably driven by emotions as their income were severely affected at the moment. We will investigate the incident,” he said to The Rakyat Post today.-TheRakyatPost
