DAP today decided to postpone its decision to take legal action against the Pahang Islamic Religious Department (JAIP) for refusing to apologise over an Aidiladha sermon which accused the party of being anti-Islam.
Pahang DAP chairman Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji said they will now contact state mufti Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Rahman Osman to "politely" ask for an explanation over the matter.
"I once again strongly deny the allegations against DAP, that apparently this party and its Muslim members are against Islam, like how Umno is portraying us to be.
Tengku Zulpuri said he was optimistic that Pahang Mufti Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Osman would agree to their meeting, which he hoped could be held next week.
Another DAP member, lawyer Zulhazmi Shariff, said at the same press conference that there was still no final decision on whether to file a suit or not, but added that they were willing to come to the discussion table first.
"At this stage we feel it is just better for us from DAP to have a meeting to seek a solution and to meet the mufti to get an explanation on his sermon," Zulhazmi said, who was formerly a PAS member.
He said that Pahang DAP will only consider its next course of action after meeting with Rahman.
Rahman has reportedly refused to apologise to DAP for his sermon, according to Malay daily Utusan Malaysia.
He defended his sermon, saying it was meant as advice to Muslims to stay united.
