AMPANG JAYA: Red Shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos has announced that he will lead a rally in Ampang on October 18 to demonstrate Selangor citizens’ dissatisfaction with the state government.
The rally was originally planned for this weekend, but he said it had to be postponed to comply with the legal requirement for a 10-day notice.
He told reporters outside the Ampang Jaya police headquarters today that the protest would highlight, among other things, the dengue epidemic in Selangor and the water supply issue.
“This rally is important because the Selangor state government is cruel to the people,” he said.
“Due to the dengue virus, we’re living in fear. Selangor is the most outstanding state when it comes to dengue. Congratulations.”
Jamal also demanded that Menteri Besar Azmin Ali respond to his predecessor Khalid Ibrahim’s allegation about missing funds totalling RM7.86 billion.
“Maybe a portion of the money was used to breed dengue mosquitos,” he quipped.
He said the rally would begin at 2pm and go on until the time for maghrib prayers.
He expressed a hope that “hundreds of thousands” of people would participate.
The rally is billed “Selamatkan Negeri Selangor Dari Kerajaan Cacar Marba.”
“It’s not carca marba (chaotic),” he explained. “It’s cacar as in rashes, because that’s what we will see on the opposition’s skin.”
Explaining why he had chosen Ampang for the rally site instead of Kajang as in his original plan, Jamal said he wanted to give space for the constituency’s state assembly representative, Wan Azizah Ismail, to cater to the needs of her ailing husband, jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
“We want to give space to Wan Azizah so that she can cater to and pamper her husband because his shoulder is in pain. So after she’s done with massaging her husband’s shoulder, we will rally in Kajang.”
Asked if he was concerned that the rally would turn chaotic like his September 16 rally, he said the opposition parties would be to blame for any untoward incident.
