Deputy minister should have checked his facts before recklessly commenting on the Chinese community, says party secretary-general.
PETALING JAYA: MCA secretary-general Ong Ka Chuan said the party will lodge a formal protest to Barisan Nasional over Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s ‘slap’ remark on the Chinese.
“We want Tajuddin to apologise to the people of Malaysia for his damaging remark. As a deputy minister, he should check his facts before making statements instead of recklessly commenting on the Malaysian Chinese community.
“The Chinese are only loyal to Malaysia. The Malaysian Chinese will never swear allegiance to other countries, let alone lodge complaints when abroad.
“This is an extremely ignorant statement coming from Tajuddin,” Ong said in a press statement today.
He said in the face of many challenges it was important for a leader to lead by example, to unite the people.
“We certainly do not need Tajuddin’s statement which has caused harm to national unity,” he added.
