RM1,000 for third replacement IC from Thursday

Home Ministry raises fees for second and third replacements of lost identity cards

mykadKUALA LUMPUR: A whopping RM1,000 fee will be charged by the Federal Government from Thursday for a third replacement identity card.
The first replacement will cost RM100 as before, but the second replacement will now cost RM100 more at RM300, according to a news report.
The current fee for the third and subsequent replacements is RM300.
Exemptions to the new fees will be granted to persons with disabilities; the poor; senior citizens aged 60 years and above and those below 18; victims of natural disasters; losses as a result of a crime, such as theft, robbery and snatch theft.
The fees are part of new procedures that take effect on October 15, but the new fees would not take into account the history of lost ICs,
NST Online reported, quoting a home ministry statement.
Police reports would now be required for the second and subsequent loss of an IC. On the third occasion, the ministry would conduct an investigation before a replacement IC is issued, deputy secretary-general Adenan Abdul Rahman said in a statement.
He said the National Registration Department had reported that a total of 1.3 million ICs were reported missing from 2010 to September this year.
Adenan said applicants will be issued a temporary identity document before the IC replacement is issued.
