MCA: Has Tee realised being ‘sepet’ is a disadvantage?

PETALING JAYA: It is odd that Ridhuan Tee Abdullah is suddenly distinguishing Muslims along racial lines, says MCA’s Ti Lian Ker.
In commenting on the controversial preacher’s column in Sinar Harian today, Ti said he was baffled as to why Tee was suddenly whining about Chinese Muslims being deprived.
“I wonder what’s eating him now? Why the sudden focus on Malay Muslims and the sudden realisation that you are to a certain extent disadvantaged by being ‘sepet’?”
Ti wondered if it was possible that Tee himself had been deprived of certain opportunities because he was “sepet”.
“Despite the fact that Tee has tried very hard to dissociate himself from his roots, his roots seem to be haunting him now,” he told FMT.
Tee had in the past use the term “sepet”, a racial slur, when criticising individuals of Chinese descent.
The MCA Central Working Committee member said Tee should have realised the social political reality earlier.
Ti said as a “God fearing” Muslim preacher and academician, Tee should be fighting against such injustices or discriminatory practices instead of segregating Muslims along racial lines, or complaining about the “keturunan sepet”, like he did most of the time.
“He should make use of his platform to have a better understanding among the ‘Children of God’ instead of spewing prejudices against his own.”
Earlier yesterday, Tee had said he was saddened by the fact that many Muslim organisations, including zakat (tithe) institutions, were filled with Malay Muslims.
Tee also claimed Muslim converts were not appointed to top posts in religious organisations.
In his column yesterday, Tee had said he was saddened that many Muslim organisations were filled with Malay Muslims, as though there were no Muslims of other races, and this was different from Christian organisations which did not hesitate to appoint Chinese Christians to top posts if they were qualified.
