Prime Minister Najib Razak has been flayed for silence over the Pahang mufti's branding of those such as DAP who question the implementation of hudud as 'kafir harbi'.
"This outrageous pronouncement by the Pahang mufti borders on criminal incitement to violence, and can have serious and drastic consequences," said PKR
"I am curious why Najib and the BN who preach of moderation are silent on such extremist and provocative views, reminiscent of IS (Islamic State).
"As is well known, the term 'kafir harbi' is specifically for those non-Muslims who wage war against Muslims, and it is only in that context they can be fought against, and even slain.
"It is thus an irresponsible and dangerous statement," said PKR central committee member Latheefa Koya in a statement today.
"Islam is a religion of peace, and to call for bloodshed against people, regardless of their faith, is against the very essence of Islam," she added, calling the mufti's claims "an irresponsible and dangerous statement".
"It is not only wrong, but completely un-Islamic, to declare a whole political party and those who support it as a group of people who can be fought against in a violent way.
"It is indeed absurd and a false teaching to suggest that those who question the PAS version of hudud are therefore fighting Islam," said Latheefa.
