'Umno mufti gets free rein, while 'adviser' PAS looks on'

An opposition MP said the free rein the government has given to the Pahang mufti over his contentious 'kafir harbi' declaration is unsurprising, noting that PAS as the ruling party's "adviser" is also immune.
"It seems the Umno government's Pahang mufti is free to say what he wants although his 'kafir harbi' statement is such a dangerous statement as it can lead to the accused being slain.
"And it looks like PAS members, who have become Umno's advisers, are also immune from action over their own 'halal darah' (permissible to be killed) statements against their opponents," said Kuala Terengganu MP Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad.
He was referring to incidents in a "northern state" under a "certain party" as well as in Terengganu, where threats by an ulama and a Terengganu PAS leader respectively against Parti Amanah Negara saw no action by the authorities.
"Although police reports were made (during the two incidents), till now no investigations have been made by the authorities," claimed Raja Kamarul Bahrin.
His comment follows the uproar over Pahang mufti Abdul Rahman Osman's declaration last Friday that DAP is 'kafir harbi' for opposing PAS' move to implement hudud in Kelantan through its president Abdul Hadi Awang's Private Member's Bill.
Critics have pointed out pronouncing someone 'kafir harbi' is a serious matter as it is meant specifically for those who are said to wage war against Islam and purportedly permits those so labeled to be slain.
'Unacceptable and shocking'
Separately, Alor Setar MP Gooi Hsiao Leung of PKR also said that Abdul Rahman’s ‘clarification’ of his statement was unacceptable and shocking in context of Malaysia as a multi-racial country.

Gooi in a statement, echoed Raja Bahrin’s concerns over the authorities apparent silence against a “seditious” statement that is seen as an attempt to incite religious hatred.
“Why has the prime minister (Najib Abdul Razak) and the inspector-general of police (Khalid Abu Bakar) not uttered a single word against this latest highly inflammatory and seditious statement made by the government appointed Pahang Mufti?” he questioned.
Gooi also pointed out that Abdul Rahman is not just an ordinary person but someone appointed to guide Muslims on the right path, instead of sanctioning bloodbaths. - Mkini
