KUALA LUMPUR: A Malay business association is suggesting the government implement a policy which would see a minimum 30 per cent of lots in new business premises allocated to Bumiputera vendors.
Malaysian Malay Businessmen and Industrialists Association of Malaysia (Perdasama) President Moehamad Izat Emir mooted the idea after claiming that Bumiputera businessmen had difficulty getting premises to operate from.
He lamented that even when Malays were given a lot in malls, it was located on the top floors, which he argued saw few visitors.
Moehamad Izat also claimed that a majority of business owners in malls were non-Bumiputeras.
“We always talk about working together as a nation.
“Developers should have multiracial businesses next to each other so that we can learn from each other and complement each other,” Moehamad Izat told reporters at Perdasama headquarters today.
He appealed to bank officers to be “braver” in handing out loans to Bumiputeras and give them more time to recover their capital.
Moehamad Izat said this after the launch of Perdasama’s Businessmen’s Complaints Bureau.
This bureau will enable Bumiputera businessmen to make complaints about whatever problems they are facing, such as dirty premises and financial difficulties.
