MMA: Police must apologise over manhandling of doctor

MMA says doctors would have expected a sincere apology for an honest mistake on the part of the police.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) has urged the police to make a sincere apology over the manhandling of a doctor by an elite police team at the Serdang Hospital on Oct 7.
Its president, Dr John Chew Chee Ming, said Dr R Thanendran was a victim of mistaken identity and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar had regretted the incident (manhandling of the doctor).
However, he said, the IGP would not apologise for the action of his men in carrying out their job.
“We would have expected a sincere apology for an honest mistake (on the part of the police) which would have placated the medical profession as we are, after all, doctors with benevolent hearts.
“However, an apology has not been tendered…
“MMA maintains its stand that the Ministry of Health ensures the safety of its healthcare personnel on its premises,” added Dr Chew in a statement here today.
