Museum apologises for using foreign model for Indian Malaysians

Muzium Negara has apologised for using a cutout of a foreign male model, whose image is believed to have been sourced from the internet, to represent Indian Malaysians.
The picture of the man appeared in the "Malaysia Today" section of the museum which showcases different eras.
The cutout of the model, clad in a khurta, appeared alongside 10 other individuals of different races in their respective traditional attires.
Met by Malaysiakini this afternoon, Muzium Negara senior curator Noraini Basri apologised over the matter.
"They represent the different people in Malaysia and we overlooked that.
"We have received complaints about it and we will have to replace it with someone local.
"It will take a few weeks. We apologise for the error," she said in reference to the cutout which has been on display for about three weeks.

Last Sunday, Facebook user Mahen Bala complained about the cutout after visiting the national museum.
"The National Museum couldn't find a decent photograph of a Indian Malaysian so they just picked one from the internet. Great job," he had said.
Checks found the exact image of the man appearing on French and Indian websites selling Indian costumes.- Mkini
