RM50 to change voting district: Sangam files police report

It wants police to investigate DAP man for lodging 'false report' accusing the Hindu body of involvement in such activities.

GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysia Hindu Sangam (MHS) has lodged a police report to counter claims that it played facilitator in an alleged campaign to shift voters to the Perai state constituency.
The report was lodged by MHS’ Butterworth honorary chairman G Shanmuganathan at the Butterworth police station yesterday.
MHS president RS Mohan Shan said the police report by a DAP municipal councillor was an attempt to tarnish the organisation’s name.
“As an NGO based on religious interests, MHS has no involvement in any political parties or political activities.
“In our counter police report, we have asked police to take action against Satees Muniandy and his associate, P David Marshel, for making a false police report against MHS without solid evidence,” Mohan told FMT.
Yesterday, Satees, a member of the Seberang Perai Municipal Council, lodged a police report after he received complaints of a voter constituency change exercise in Perai.
He was accompanied at the Bukit Mertajam police station by fellow councillor David.
Satees, in his police report, claimed the campaign was to increase the number of voters for Barisan Nasional (BN) and MIC. Perai, a former traditional MIC seat, has been held by DAP since 2008.
Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy holds the Perai seat.
Satees claimed RM50 had been paid as a reward to those who brought their identity cards to facilitate the transfer of names to Perai.
“… this was related to me by a person by the name of Sumi, who called me yesterday,” Satees’ police report read.
Satees said a week earlier, a woman senior citizen had come to the Perai DAP office to complain about “MIC and Malaysia Hindu Sangam people” collecting ICs in the Bagan Dalam constituency. FMT
