Cheras MP: I will lodge MACC report against Ku Nan

Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai is to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on his claim that 45 parcels of government land in Kuala Lumpur had been sold without open tender since Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor became the Federal Territories minister.
This comes after he was challenged to do so by the minister yesterday.
Tengku Adnan, commonly known as Ku Nan, had explained that most of the land was sold to build affordable housing for the people and he criticised Tan for “misleading the public” on these issues.
Tan, who is now overseas, said that Ku Nan had failed to address his original claim.
“He never answered my question (about selling land without open tenders).
“Ku Nan is using ‘housing for urban poor’ as a shield or excuse for raw deals from the sale of precious prime land owned by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) at the expense of the city folk and the CityHall.
“I will definitely lodge a report with the MACC,” Tan told Malaysiakini today.

Tan (photo) said he will also be sending a letter to auditor-general (AG) Madinah Mohamad urging her department to extend its probe into how Ku Nan’s ministry had been selling land to private developers to build affordable housing.
‘In the 2016 AG’s report, 13 out of the 66 pieces of DBKL land sold to build Federal Territory Affordable Housing (Rumawip) were investigated, and already it showed so many doubtful dealings.
“I will write a letter asking the auditor-general to check all the remaining 53 dealings done by the ministry under Ku Nan,” Tan added.
DBKL sold land to dubious companies
The latest audit report labelled Ku Nan’s ministry as “unsatisfactory” for how it conducted land sales for its Rumawip projects.
“The audit finds that DBKL land has been sold through ‘outright sale’ to developers that were newly-set up, dormant, in weak financial standing or without experience (in construction).
“The audit also could not verify if there were clear justifications for the sale of the land to these companies,” it said.
The report also revealed that DBKL had been selling land to developers at a price lower than the market rate as well as the government-set rate.
DBKL was found to have exempted developers from the development tax without filing the necessary paperwork and, in some cases, from late payment interest.
DBKL explained in the report that developers were accorded these deals after they offered to build Rumawip.

Tan said the report proved DBKL’s “raw deals” only benefited land buyers.
“If the City Hall needs land for public use in the future, will it need to buy land from private developers?" he asked.
“Why did the minister, who oversees KL, agree to such biased terms that are in favour of land buyers?
“There are too many questions to ask,” he added.- Mkini
