A police patrol car on rounds turned up to stop the “fracas” but looking at the “unruly crowd”, they immediately called for backup.

When the crowd refused to disperse and began attacking police officers, the officers fired tear gas.
A curious crowd of bystanders watched as the “drama” unfolded and some only realised later that it was a just a police drill to prepare for the 14th general election, which must be called by August next year.
Despite being affected by the tear gas fired during the drill, Central Seberang Perai police district chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid was happy with the efficiency displayed by his men.
