Jalan Ampang fallen tree: Motorist in accident passes away

KUALA LUMPUR: The motorist who was injured after crashing into a tree, which had fallen on Jalan Ampang, has passed away last week.

Norazrul Ahmad, 37, has been hospitalised at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) after the incident on March 5.

Last Friday, Norazrul was pronounced dead at 5.41am, on March 16.

HKL public relations officer Rohana Amdan said the victim was admitted to the ICU after the accident due to severe injuries and he remained unconscious.

"The victim was warded at the ICU all this while before he was confirmed dead last Friday," she said when contacted.

In the incident about 7.43am on March 5, Norazrul and his friend Mira Ezva Abd Rasid, 25, were on a motorcycle when they crashed onto a fallen tree at Jalan Ampang near KLCC here.

The tree’s decaying root was identified as the main cause of the 130-year-old tree to fall to the ground.

Norazrul was reported to be seriously injured, and his friend, Mira, suffered minor injuries after the accident.

It is learned that he was buried at the Islam Gombak Cemetery, Selangor, last Friday. -nst
