Penang gov't slammed for rush in taking down anti-CM posters

A Penang Gerakan youth leader has challenged state exco Chow Kon Yeow to state why he was in a rush to take down the posters put up by BN across the state on Monday.
At a press conference today, Penang Gerakan acting youth chief Jason Loo asked Chow is he was scared to let Penangites know of the “51 empty promises” of Pakatan Harapan.
Yesterday, Chow said that BN should have applied for local council permits before putting up the posters.
Loo shot back by saying the permits would not have been approved by the DAP-led state government.
"Do you think we can obtain approval for the permits?" he asked.
Chow had also said the 600 “environmentally unfriendly" posters ran afoul of the state’s green initiatives, which were then dismissed by Penang BN chief Teng Chang Yeow, who said that the posters were just a “dry run” before the 14th general election.
‘Not green’
Loo (photo) also took a dig at the stated green initiatives, reminding Chow of how the state had handled the Bukit Relau and Pulau Jerejak issues.
Bukit Relau, dubbed as “"Botak (bald) Hill” by locals, was illegally cleared by a private developer. The developer was later fined by court, before a stop-work order was issued to the company.
Pulau Jerejak, meanwhile, became an issue when the Penang government sold a plot of land to a private developer.
"Can you support the greener initiative by sincerely solving the 'Botak Hill' problem?
"How many illegal hillslope developments have been tolerated by the state government? Why allowed those developers such privileges?" Loo asked.
Loo also claimed that despite its 10-year rule, the state government was unable to gazette Pulau Jerejak as a national forest reserve.
"How shameful. While you promote the slogan of cleaner, greener Penang, but you cannot approve such a simple procedure to gazette the island as a forest reserve.”
Tolerating Zenith
Loo also contrasted the efficiency with which the Penang government took down the posters, and their toleration of Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd, despite the undersea tunnel project contractor being dogged by controversy.
He reminded Chow (photo) that Zenith was supposed to have completed the tunnel's feasibility studies by April 30, 2016.
"However, until today, four years and five months have passed and the report is still pending," Loo said at the press conference today.
The RM6.3 billion tunnel has been the focus of a major probe by the MACC, with over 100 individuals queried and five officials arrested to assist with investigations.

Loo also slammed Chow for saying that 1MDB monies were used to fund the posters, since the claim was purportedly made without evidence.
He added that as someone who is speculated to succeed Lim Guan Eng as chief minister, he should set a good example by sticking to facts. -Mkini
