Police report filed against Shukri for not reporting bribe attempt

A police report has been filed against MACC chief commissioner Mohd Shukri Abdull for failing to lodge a report against an attempt to bribe him to close the 1MDB investigation.
Umno leader Lokman Adam, who filed the report with the Kelana Jaya police station this evening, said this constituted an offence under Section 25 (1) and (2) of the MACC Act 2009.
If found guilty, he said, Shukri could be fined not more than RM100,000, imprisoned for not more than 10 years or both.
“I made this police report because this happened when Shukri was still a public servant.
“The issue of fear does not arise because there is the Witness Protection Act and he can request for witness protection,” he added in a statement.
The former Ministry of Finance strategic communications director also criticised Shukri over his tell-all press conference at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.
“Enough with the politics of vengeance practised by (Prime Minister Dr) Mahathir (Mohamad).
“Not everyone can accept Shukri's fables. In fact, his statements prove there is subjudice and raised the issue of prejudice towards (former premier) Najib Abdul Razak.
“If what Shukri said is true, it proves that his appointment as MACC chief commissioner was done specifically to seek revenge and ensure Najib is imprisoned,” he added.
Yesterday, Shukri claimed that an MP from the north, who is known for the adage “cash is king”, offered him money in return for not pursuing the 1MDB investigation in 2015.
However, he did not name the MP.
Shukri also revealed how he had received bullets via the mail, was stalked when abroad and that the police wanted to arrest him for conspiring against the government.
The press conference was held when Najib was being questioned over the RM42 million from former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International being transferred into his personal account at the same venue.
Shukri's statements drew criticism from various quarters, including the Bar Council, 1MDB task force and DAP lawmaker Ramkarpal Singh, who said the remarks could be prejudicial against those being investigated. -Mkini
