Stop exploiting CM’s mansion, says former Malacca CM

Former Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron has urged his successor Adly Zahari to not exploit the chief minister's official residence, Seri Bendahara, to score political points.
Idris said that residence had always been open to public every Friday during his administration.
Therefore, he said allegations by Pakatan Harapan that Seri Bendahara was off limits was inaccurate.
"Many (government) programmes were held at Seri Bendahara when I was chief minister. The public could visit me every Friday about their problems," he said.
Since May 15, Adly has opened up Seri Bendahara – a sprawling nine-bedroom mansion, complete with swimming pool and opulent bathroom – for public viewing.
The public viewing will last for a month, until June 14.
At the time, Adly said his administration wanted the public to witness how the past chief ministers lived.
Idris said Adly should stop "playing the role of opposition" and issue statements based on facts.
He further argued that Seri Bendahara was built in 2003 – when Mohd Ali Rustam was chief minister – and that he never changed its appearance.
According to Idris, the renovation works that were undertaken in 2013, 2016 and 2017 were necessary, as this included installing CCTVs, paving roads and building a garage.
In 2016, a water tank leak had resulted in damage to Seri Bendahara's carpet and the emission of foul odour. - Mkini
