The US Ambassador to Malaysia Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir (above) today met with Council of Eminent Persons chairperson Daim Zainuddin to discuss business relations between the two countries.
This was confirmed by a US embassy spokesperson with Malaysiakini.
“The ambassador met with Daim Zainuddin today to discuss the bilateral economic and commercial relationship between the US and Malaysia,” the spokesperson said declining to offer further details.
Lakhdhir was earlier spotted entering Kuala Lumpur's Menara Ilham at 2:55 pm but did not speak to members of the press.
She was not included in the list of people scheduled to meet with the council today.
Menara Ilham is where Daim and other members of the council have been holding daily meetings with top-level representatives of various ministries and government agencies.
Established on May 12, the council has been tasked with advising the government on financial reforms over the next 100 days.
Yesterday, the US Department of Justice (DoJ) told Reuters that it will continue to probe 1MDB and said it looked forward to working with Malaysian law enforcement authorities who have reopened a probe into the fund following a regime change in the May 9 general election. -Mkini
